Installing Wordpress CMS on Debian/Ubuntu

WordPress is an open-source website creation tool written in PHP. But in non-geek speak, it’s probably the easiest and most powerful blogging and website content management system (or CMS) in existence today. Having a website/blog for the library is a necessary one nowadays, which can be used for Announcements purpose, User's Participation, Information Services, Library information


Install LAMP Stack

cd /var/www/html

sudo wget https://wordpress.org/latest.tar.gz

sudo tar xvfz latest.tar.gz

sudo chown -R www-data:www-data wordpress

just visit http://localhost/wordpress in your browser to check whether  apache loads wordpress

Probably it will ask for the Database name, database username, database password, database host etc.

Create a database for wordpress 

sudo mysql -uroot -p  (provide your MySQL root password) 

create database wordpress;
CREATE USER 'wordpress'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY 'wordpress123';
GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON *.* TO 'wordpress'@'localhost' WITH GRANT OPTION;
FLUSH PRIVILEGES;
quit;


so provide database connection details
 
Database name           :  wordpress
Username                    : wordpress
Password                     : wordpress123
Database connection   : localhost
Table prefix                : wp_

Grand write permision to wp-content

sudo chmod -R 777 /var/ww/html/wordpress/wp-content

Create FTP user & password
